CLOTHING, CLIMATE, AND HEALTH
Scottsdale sits in the Sonoran Desert. In late October to early November, the area is hot and generally dry, with daytime temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to the mid-90s (°F). Temperatures drop about 20° at night. Humidity is generally low and rainfall negligible. Elevation is about 1200′, but there are mountainous and high desert areas nearby. Elevation at Sedona is over 4000′, and over 7000′ feet at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Be sure to stay hydrated, use sunscreen liberally, and avoid over-exertion. For excursions, wear sensible, protective clothing and sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Closed-toe shoes are also required for the Desert Foothills event. Be aware that rattlesnakes and scorpions are native to the area. Wear closed-toe shoes when outdoors, look inside your shoes before putting them on, and watch where you step.
