San Diego Convention
The 49th annual World Wings International convention was held in San Diego, California, at the Omni Hotel.
San Diego offered blue skies, beautiful weather, the bay, great sightseeing, and an incomparable culinary scene. There was so much to do and the San Diego Chapter of World Wings welcomed us with open arms.
Sunday evening, gathered on the Omni’s Sail Terrace to reconnect with our World Wings friends and gather some of those Good Vibrations! It wasn’t long before we were humming along to our favorite Beach Boys songs and having FUN, FUN, FUN, with the best DJ music in SoCal.
On Monday evening, we were treated to an extraordinary experience aboard the USS Midway, the #1 tourist attraction in California. Dining on the flight deck, with unparalleled 360-degree views of San Diego, was truly magical. World Wings members and guests, Clipper Pioneers, PAHF and PAMF members and families, and other Pan Amers enjoyed a cocktail reception, followed by a four-course sit-down dinner served with wine, and surprise entertainment and music.
Monday night, the Golden Age Gala celebrated the romance of a bygone era. Our “Golden Age” farewell dinner, themed in grand gold and sky-blue style, was held in the Omni’s elegant grand ballroom. After the welcome drink and fabulous four-course dinner, we were transported back to the early days of Pan Am as Juan Trippe’s son Edward, and his wife Bobbie, read the romantic letters of founder Juan Trippe and his wife Betty. Later in the evening, we continued to celebrate, as we put on our dancing shoes and danced the night away.
