2023 On the Border Gathering

On September 10th, the Boston Chapter held its annual “On the Border” gathering. What a beautiful day it was for Debbi’s extravagant Octoberfest celebration!
The Bratwurst–roasted on the grill–was the perfect entree to accompany the veggies , salads, and desserts for this special occasion.

Debbi generously provided transportation up to her cozy and heated Pan Am cabin with all its memorabilia and seasonal decor.
Don’s creative talents extended to the outdoor atmosphere with the firepit providing warmth and the teeter-totter for extra fun.

So many thanks to Debbi and Don for another perfect gathering on the border.

New Hampshire Aviation Museum - September 2023

On September 10th, the Boston Chapter participated in laying a Pan Am brick (inscribed with “Pan Am – Gone But Not Forgotten”) at the New Hampshire Aviation Museum. The museum is one of our chapter’s designated charities. Seven of our members attended and spoke individually about their experiences and what the airline meant to them. After the ceremony, our group celebrated by having lunch at the nearby Airport Diner.

The Boston Chapter's Lake Party - July, 2023

The Boston Chapter met in Salem, NH on July 24 for Mary Greenfield’s annual “Lake Party.” The weather was perfect for the 19 people who came from near and far to our outdoor picnic. Luanne and her husband Eric flew in from Michigan, while new member Nicki Lambooy came up from Connecticut. In addition to spending a wonderful afternoon with friends, we raised $270 for our charities via a raffle of Pan Am memorabilia. We can’t wait for future gatherings!

Boston Christmas Party 2022

Boston’s annual Christmas party was held December 7 at Paparazzi Restaurant in Concord. A huge thank you goes to Christel and Elisa for organizing this festive event. Each place setting was adorned with a sprig of evergreen and a creative PanAm Christmas ornament, beautifully crafted by Elisa!

19 people attended the event, and Madeline Smith and her friend Nicki Lambooy-Albertine drove three hours from Washington Depot, Ct to attend the luncheon. Christel and Elisa surprised Madeline with a birthday cake to celebrate her 98th birthday, which is December 13. Madeline never ceases to amaze us with her energy. She still plays golf, tennis and walks two miles per day. Nicki, who recently retired after a 55-year flying career with Delta, is joining our Boston Chapter. We are happy to welcome her.

Captain Dino looked dashing in his attire and took lots of pictures for our album, while Ron Amon wore his Santa hat and was as animated as ever. Christel surprised us with a few prizes and we passed the hat for charity donations.

Happy holidays to all!

Boston Chapter Pool Party 2022

On July 25, the Boston Chapter enjoyed a terrific Pan Am Pool party/luncheon hosted by Michiyo Matsuyama Connor at her home in Londonderry. For our charity drawing, Debbie Fuller walked away with a beautiful David Jeffery Designs: Pan Am “Round the World” crossbody pocketbook. It was great to once again get together and trade “war” stories.

Boston Chapter On The Border Party, 2019

Our annual “ On the Border “ party was great fun in the picturesque country setting of Debbi and Don’s home ! Debbi prepared in advance, with tables set up in the garage for the showery forecast. However the rain held off and we feasted on gourmet cuisine contributed by each member. We were fortunate to have 17 present from four New England States .

Following dinner we hiked up the hill to the famous Pan Am cabin , a replica of Thoreau’s cabin at Waldon Pond .
Surrounded by many of Debbi’s creative talents with Pan Am décor throughout , we were awestruck by her collections.

Debbi prepared us for some play activity that her husband, Don, had built for her : a teeter-totter ( aka see-saw ) and a towering swing. Some of us lined up, feeling adventurous , and sat on the teeter-totter for a wild ride with many laughs and pictures taken . The swing also brought us back to our playground memories from years ago.

It was such a great outdoor party , but we were missing a very special person, Ron Amon, who was also celebrating a birthday on the same day .
While Ron was not able to be with us, we all sang to him on video while holding the helium Birthday balloon.

Boston Chapter Christmas Party, 2018

Another sensational Christmas party took place in Boxford, MA, on December 9th with nearly thirty World Wings members and guests.
Mary Lou’s artistic talents were clearly shown on the PAA tree, decorated with luggage tags from flying days along with ornaments. Sally, our president, presided over the raffle which offered a vast array of PAA prizes to the lucky winners. Suddenly , as the party was about to begin, shouts and applause were heard as Santa Claus arrived with a jolly “Ho Ho Ho” !!!!
How very special it was for us to welcome Madeline Smith, our VIP, who is still as vibrant and healthy and active as ever. Another special guest was Pat Rex, accompanied by her guardian, who enjoyed recalling her flying days.
Many thanks to Ron Amon (our special Santa) for giving us all a good laugh and entertainment, and our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Mary Lou and John O’Keefe for hosting this amazing Christmas celebration.

Boston On the Border Party - October 2, 2018

The Boston Chapter held its annual “On the Border” luncheon at the home of Debby Fuller. Even the rain didn’t stop the fun — we just moved into the garage (hence the chain saws). And the day would not be complete without a visit to Debby’s Pan Am-themed cabin!

Tour of Mappararium & First Church of Christ, Scientist - April 4, 2018

On April 4th, the Boston World Wings Chapter visited the Mapparium and The First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston with its 13,000+ pipe organ and the beautiful smaller church on the lower level! We were thrilled to hear the magnificent organ played by Bryan Ashley, organist of The Mother Church and to hear a lovely hymn sung by Teddy Crecelius. Teddy’s father Ned Crecelius joined our party and regaled us with stories of his father, Pan Am Captain Crecelius who flew out of San Francisco.

We enjoyed the welcoming staff and beautiful building. Most of all, we thank our Pan Am sister Erika Parrish-Wilcox for hosting this wonderful day. Erika left us all in awe with her knowledge and love for the church!

Pan Am attendees were Ron Amon, Mary Lou Bigelow, Michiyo Matsuyama Connor, Elisa Cunningham, Mary Greenfield, Carol Guerrin, Christel McCarthy and our host Erika Parrish-Wilcox.
